Zhaodong

Zhaodong is a Chinese city of more than 100,000 inhabitants. It is located in Suihua, Heilongjiang. It should not be confused with the town of Zhaotong, located in Yunnan.

Yichun, Heilongjiang

Yichun is a prefecture-level city on the Songhua river north of Tieli in Heilongjiang province in Northeastern China. It is surrounded by forests and had 803,700 inhabitants in 2001.

Tieli

Tieli is a Chinese county-level city in Yichun prefecture, Heilongjiang province. It has approximately 273,000 inhabitants.

Suihua

Suihua is a prefecture-level city in Heilongjiang province of the People's Republic of China. Shuihua is about 100 km from Harbin. Suihua is in the southern half of Heilongjiang.

Suihua is affected by poverty in a degree that clearly is more than average among Chinese cities.

Suifenhe City

Suifenhe City or Sui-fen-ho City (Chinese: 绥芬河市, pinyin Suifēnhé Shì, is a city in Mudanjiang prefecture, Heilongjiang, China situated where the former Chinese Eastern Railway crosses the Russian border. It shares the name of the Suifenhe River.


The Environmental Investigation Agency conducted an investigation in February 2008, in the illegal logging of Russian wood, which was taking place in Suifenhe. The main supplier of the wood,Wal-Mart, has recently acknowledged that the practice in Suifenhe is illegal, under Russian law, and has committed to end all illegal sales of wood in six years.

Shuangyashan

Shuangyashan is a coal-mining city in the eastern part of China's Heilongjiang province.

The city has approximately 600,000 inhabitants in the urban area, and approximately 1,500,000 including the surrounding countryside and suburbs.

Transportation
Shuangyashan is the end of the Haerbin to Shuangyashan railway spur link. 15 hours from Haerbin by train, and 90 minutes from the next large Provincial town Jiamusi. A modern freeway connects the town to Jiamusi over a distance of 57km. There is a modern coach service as well which does this trip in approximately 45 minutes.

Sight-Seeing

Shuangyashan is surrounded by small mountains, and a large park based around one of these mountains forms a major feature of the outdoor life of the town. During the winter, this pine- and elm-covered mountain forms a lovely area for hiking and general snow play. In summer, the cool Heilongjiang summer, and the very long northern days make this a wonderful area to spend the days.

Shangzhi

Shangzhi is a county-level city located in the southeast of Heilongjiang province,China. It is 127 kilometres away from the provincial capital Harbin and has an area of approximately 9,000 square kilometres. The town has a population of around 120,000 and the whole county has approximately 600,000 inhabitants.

The city of Shangzhi was once called Zhuhe . It was developed during the years of in the late Qing dynasty, and was renamed to Shangzhi to commemorate the anti-Japanese war hero Zhao Shangzhi in 1946.

The most famous place in Shangzhi is the Yabuli Skiing Centre - the largest in Asia and 3rd largest in the world.

ZHAO Shangzhi, Commander of the Northeast Anti-Japan United Army during World War II. A well-known national hero who devoted his life to the Northeastern struggle against Japanese occupation. He was captured and beheaded after a traitor leaked his whereabouts to the Japanese.

Qitaihe

Qitaihe is a prefecture-level city in Heilongjiang province of the People's Republic of China. It has an area of 6,221 square kilometers and a population of 890,000.

Coal mining is an important industry. Other major cities with coal mining within the province include Hegang.

Qitaihe began its development when mining started in 1958.

Toxic leak in benzene factory

A benzene plant situated upstream in the city of along the Songhua river exploded on 13 November 2005. Benzene levels reached more than 100 times normal levels, which led authorities in Harbin to shut off the water supply, and some residents left the city while others rushed to buy bottled water. After a few days the water supply was restored. The Harbin government originally declared to the public that the water supply was temporarily off while the supply system was checked. They also denied reports of a chemical leak, claiming that was "just a rumour."

Hulin

Hulin is a city on Muling River with a population of around 200,000 in Heilongjiang province, China. It is known as a city with a beautiful environment featuring the Wusuli River that borders Russia. It contains forests and fertile black-colored soil. Its main agricultural products include soybeans, cattle, milk, various organic produces, and lumber.

Heihe

Heihe is a city in Heilongjiang, China.

It is located at , on the Russian border, on the south bank of the Amur River, across the river from the Russian city of Blagoveshchensk. Heihe has a population of about 113,000.

Today Heihe, which forms a free-trade zone with Blagoveshchensk, is a major centre of Sino-Russian trade. Many Russians and Chinese take advantage of Visa-free travel between the cities, which has spurred large unofficial trade between China and Russia. Some inhabitants of Blagoveshchensk have purchased apartments on the Chinese side, as living costs are much lower.

Transportation between Blagoveshchensk and Heihe is by boat in the summer and by bus over the frozen river in the winter; when the ice is too weak to carry buses, the route is operated by hovercrafts.

Hailun is a city in Suihua, Heilongjiang, China.

Gannan County

Gannan County is a in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang, China, about 50 km northwest of the city seat of Qiqihar.

Daqing

Daqing is a city in northeast China in the Heilongjiang . The name means "Great Celebration".

It was founded in 1959 to house workers extracting oil and gas from the Daqing oilfield and to host industries which could take advantage of the energy and petrochemicals. Since its foundation it has been advocated as a model of good practice in industry and healthcare by the Chinese government. The fact that Mao Zedong promulgated his Supreme Directive, , in the 1960s showed how important a role Daqing has played in industry in China. The film Entrepreneurial Pioneers , made in the early 1970s, is a literary rendition of the history of Daqing.
Its agricultural counterpart is Dazhai, a village in the hilly Xiyang county, Shanxi Province, for which Mao Zedong issued the directive , also in the 1960s.

Daqing has a population of 2.58 million, urban population 901,840 of them mainly Han Chinese, with a few population of other 31 minority ethnic groups including Manchu, , , and nationalities. The population density is 112.69/km?, urban population density 205.07/km?.

Climate:


Located in the north temperate zone, Daqing belongs to the continental monsoon climate and is affected by the cold air mass from the inland of Mongolia and the monsoon resulted from the warm air mass of the ocean.
Generally, the winter is cold with frequent snowfalls, and spring and autumn are prevailed by monsoons. A shorter frost free period, and plenty of rainfall comes in step with the heat, all of which are good for crops and herbage. The yearly average temperature is 5.6 degrees Celsius with a summer average of 22 degrees Celsius, and 2658.1 hours of sunshine, 229 days free of frost in average. The daily difference in temperature can be up to 14 degrees Celsius during the growth period of crops.

Economy


Daqing's economy highly depends on petroleum and related industries. Daqing's oilfield is China's largest oilfield, and the world's fourth most productive oil field. Petroleum accounts for 61.9% of GDP. 2004 Gross Domestic Product was 123.95b; with its small population, this makes the GDP Per capita RMB 89,962 , so Daqing is
among 659 Chinese cities.

Acheng District

Acheng District is an administrative of Harbin, , China. The city, located at at an elevation of 140 m with a population of 234,057 , is 29 km southeast of the city of Harbin, 190 km north of Jilin, and around 50 km south of the Songhua River; it lies within the basin of the A-shih River. Its administrative jurisdiction covers an area of 2,680 km? and includes over eleven towns, five rural areas, 126 villages, and five subdistricts, with a total population of over 650,000.

History


The city of Acheng has a long history. It is the site of the ruins of , a prefecture in Shangjing which served as the first capital of the Jin Dynasty .

Acheng county was established in 1909. It was designated a county-level city in 1987.

Commerce


The area is rich in mineral resources, seven types of which have been commercially developed, including sources of rock, volcanic rock, granite, molybdenum, zinc, lead, and copper.

The area is important in grain production, having produced 33,100 tons of grain in 2002; much of this grain is essential in feeding the important city of Harbin.

Acheng is a major industrial area for Heilongjiang, with over 300 types of enterprises, including textile, electromechanics, food, building materials , metallurgy, breweries fueled by the local grain, sugar refineries, a flax plant, and the production of medicine. In 1996 a new technology industrial development zone was created on the western side of the city to encourage the development of high technology, export-oriented industry.

Tourism is also a growing part of the local economy. Acheng is located on the popular tourist route serving Harbin, the , Lake Jingpo, and Xingkai Lake. A number of historic and nature reserves in the area also attract visitors.

Transport


The city of Acheng is a 50 km drive from the international airport at Harbin.

The Binsui Railway passes through the city. There are over twenty commuter rail lines in the rural area.

An expressway connects the city to Harbin and several other national highways run through the area.
